GatorGate™ Double Dump Valve Replaces Problematic Rotary Airlock Valve
CLEVELAND, Ohio – December 14, 2011 – Aerodyne, a specialist in solving dry material handling problems, was contacted by a Midwest provider of tire recycling services. The company had a baghouse system which was collecting airborne dust from its tire shredding operation. Small pieces of rubber, nylon fabric, and steel are collected and discharged from the collector by a rotary airlock valve which tended to wear out prematurely. In addition, the fibers from the tires would also wrap around the rotors causing additional mechanical problems.
The recycler previously had rotary airlock valves in place to empty the dust collector. Due to the continuous rotation and tight tolerances, the rotary airlocks wore out very quickly and replacement of these valves were very costly. The replacement of parts was also very time-consuming because the valves’ drive assemblies had to be disassembled.
The decision was made to replace the rotary valves with Aerodyne’s 12″ GatorGate Double Dump Valve. The GatorGate is used to discharge chunky, fibrous and abrasive material efficiently and works with low-pressure air or gravity-fed systems where standard rotary valves are prone to failure. The double dump valve is lower in initial cost and does not have a rotating assembly that is constantly wearing, so the valve lasts much longer and provides a better airlock seal. Due to the success of the double dump valve in this application, they plan to replace other rotary airlocks with double dump valves soon.
