CLEVELAND, OH – April 18, 2013 – A major oil supplier operating in Brazil was required by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, or IBAMA, to install dust collectors on its oil rig supply ships. The supply ships provide concrete to the oil rigs and use compressed air to pneumatically transfer the concrete from the ship, up to the storage vessel on the oil rig. When the air from the transfer is released into the atmosphere, some particulate is left in the air. The main issue the facility was facing in solving this was that there was a limited amount of room on the supply vessels for a dust collector. It needed a compact design that would fit on its deck and not require too much head room.
While searching for an industrial air filtration system, the company found Aerodyne’s Ground Plate Cyclonic Dust Collector (GPC). The compact, horizontal design was ideal for the setup on the operator’s deck. The GPC dust collector is a compact high efficiency cyclone dust collector. It has several distinct advantages over common high-efficiency cyclone dust collectors. The spiral inlet of the GPC directs the dirty gas stream toward the ground plate and hopper of the collector. Coupled with the compact size of the collectors, this gives the GPC the ability to be installed horizontally with virtually no effect on the collection efficiency.
After working with Aerodyne on the layout for the dust collectors on the rigs, the plant operators purchased two GPC-18s and chose the durable stainless steel construction. The units will remove a majority of the excess dust the company’s operation creates. The company was so pleased with the performance of the Aerodyne GPCs, it purchased twenty more for its other oil rig supply ships.
