CLEVELAND, Ohio – November 10, 2010 – Aerodyne, a specialist in solving dry material handling problems has overcome the challenge of designing an effective dust collection system that will fit the limited space available in many plants.
Most cyclone dust collectors must be installed outdoors or partially protruding through the roof due to low overhead clearances. The Aerodyne SplitStream™ Dust Collector is a “counter-cyclonic” dust collector that can be uniquely configured vertically or horizontally without negatively impacting dust collection efficiency. This feature allows for easy installation in existing facilities or new locations.

Horizontal installation allows this collector to be suspended from a ceiling, conserving valuable space on the manufacturing floor. This can be a major cost saving benefit when compared to cutting a hole in a factory roof or constructing a site for the dust collector outdoors. The horizontal SplitStream dust collection system makes for easy maintenance without the use of tall scaffolding that can pose a safety hazard to workers. The ability to install this collector indoors provides the benefits of protection from the weather as well as prevention of condensation that can result from handling hot process gases on cold days.
As the dirty gas stream enters the dust collector chamber, a stationary spinner imparts a rotation to the gas stream and centrifugal force throws the collected particulate toward the outer walls where it is intercepted by a secondary gas stream and forced toward the hopper. The secondary gas stream keeps particulate away from the dust collector housing, eliminating the need for abrasion-resistant materials or extra heavy construction. It is the secondary air stream that encourages the movement of particulate toward the hopper, which allows for horizontal installation and increases the efficiency of the dust collector, especially with fine particles.
